Is Your Home “Wedding Day” Ready?

We can probably all agree that the way we look on our Wedding Day is a stark contrast to how we’re looking on a slow-down Saturday, am I right?

And of course it makes sense. Milestone moments are when we bring out the big guns and make sure we’re putting our best foot forward and pulling out all the stops.

But the days surrounding it? They’re well worth the R&R. Which is why I often laugh and tell sellers that if they were to drop by unexpectedly while I was cleaning my shower stall, or laying mulch in the yard, they would probably find me either with no makeup on OR makeup that has smeared terribly. My hair would be plopped on my head in any old fashion and you’d probably find me in an old t-shirt, shorts...and...I would not be smelling my very best. I’m woman enough to admit that 😆

Yet compare that Saturday “me” to how I looked on my wedding day and you wouldn’t be able to recognize me! My hair was professionally done, my makeup was professionally done, and I was wearing a gown that was custom-fitted.

You could almost say I was “prepped & staged” 😉

So how I show up to clean my shower stall is not at all how I was showing up to walk down the aisle. And why would it be? My wedding day was a huge milestone to me just as putting your home on the market to achieve top dollar should be to you! Because the way you live in your home every day is not how you want to present it to those who want to envision how they will live in it.

When clients ask me why they need to declutter and depersonalize or why should they stage or the ultimate zinger, “why can’t then just put it on the market as it is?” I’m floored. To me, it’s the same as someone asking me if I had purchased a wedding dress for the “big day” and replying, “No. I think I’ll just pick something out of my closet that morning and roll with it!” or being asked “Have you decided where the venue will be?” and saying “No, I just figured, I’d call everyone the week before and we’d decide on place. What’s the big deal?”

That sounds quite silly, right? That’s because it is. Milestone moments deserve Milestone Makeovers. And putting your home on the market is a milestone, considering that it may be your largest investment.

Additionally, it’s important to understand that staging your home to achieve top dollar is strategic planning and failing to plan is planning to fail.

How you show a home to receive Top Dollar is not at all remotely similar to how you live in your home.

Even homes that are not updated to today’s trends, can look so much better with a little preparation and staging!

So don’t miss out on having your home, possibly one of your largest investments, look its very best when you put it on the market.

Personally, I always share with my sellers that once the home has been prepared and staged, we can all put our heads on our pillows at night, feeling confident that we did everything we possibly could do, to squeeze every last dollar out of their home/investment. 😉
